KSI European Championships 2009

SKF National Team recently took part in the KSI European Championships held in Potsdam, Germany.  They won a fantastic array of medals and topped medal table with 12 Gold , 4 Silver & 8 Bronze medals.  For full pictures and report please follow link to page.

EKF National Championships

Sensei Audun Daniels, Alex Whyte, Ben Yates & Katie Simpson recently went up to the EKF Nationals held in Sheffield and fought some good fights but unfortunately only came back with 1 bronze at this years championships.  

 

However the results did not tell the true reflection on how the performance from our SKF squad members showed themselves.

 

Audun Daniels fought very well in the Mens Sr + 84kg Kumite category only narrowly losing out in the semi-final match where he was only just pipped in the remaining 10 seconds.  He then went on to fight in the bronze medal match but again was just pipped in the dying seconds.  In the open weight again after some very tough and hard earned victories, he again was pipped in the semi-final.  In the bronze medal match it was very hard to take as the scoring just wasnt going in his favour and after takedowns and pinpoint techniques that went unnoticed he was just pipped for bronze again. 

 

Alex Whyte fought his way back from a very sluggish start in the Male 18-20 yrs under 78kg kumite, to take the bronze medal after some tough matches in the repercharge.  However after some pressure he held his nerve well to take the bronze deservedly.

 

Ben Yates started brightly in the 18-20 yrs  +78kg kumite, but then faded in the 2nd round to a well matched opponent.  This fired Ben up and he came back in the repercharge and fought his way to the bronze medal final but was just pipped out of the medal.  In the Mens Open weight he again started very well, but then was beaten fairly by the eventual finalist.  This bought him back into the repercharge, where he fought with courage but couldnt find the form he was looking for to edge the fight in his favour.

 

Katie Simpson was disappointed at starting slowly in her match but after coming back to a deserved repercharge final was just pipped for the bronze medal.

 

All in all this was the first time they had competed in over 9 months and it showed, as all looked a little rusty, but all showed true spirit and determination and positives can be taken away from the championships, as they build towards the European championships in Germany later in the year.

 

Its looking promising thats for sure.
